What Is It?
Vitamin B2 being a water soluble vitamin plays a major role in energy production
Why is it important?
Riboflavin along with the other B vitamins is important for body growth and helps in red blood cell production. It is a key component of coenzymes involved in the breakdown of fats, steroids, and medications. Additionally, bacteria in the gut can produce small amounts of riboflavin but not enough to meet dietary needs and its deficiency can lead endocrine abnormalities such as thyroid hormone insufficiency, degeneration of the liver and nervous system.
